December 10, 1948 Oceanside CA Performer/educator guitarlessonexpert.com Married 1

Like a lot of us, after graduation I headed off to college, but a funny thing happened on the way to university. I found myself in the exciting position of performing  with my band at major concert shows, sharing stages with Eric Clapton/Cream, with Neil Young and Stephen Stills/Buffalo Springfield, with the Who, Steppenwolf, Jefferson Airplane, Eric Burdon & the Animals, the Byrds, and many more. It was a fantastic time, but it led me away from academia. In addition to performing, countless people found the way to my door, wanting to learn guitar and songwriting, and my life took on a life of its own, definitely off the beaten path. I was in business as a recording artist, producer, and music educator.

Soon after, I purchased a top level musical instrument store and owned and ran that for twelve years. Once I left that music store business in 1990 and with the rumblings of this thing called the Internet, I began marketing and plying my trade online, as I do today. In 2002, I married an amazing singer, and since then I have joyfully been writing and recording music with her. While I don’t believe this is the place to promote our music, I would love it if you wanted to visit our site. Just reach out to me in a private message on Facebook for the details. I’m also in the Hilltop Class of 1967 Facebook group.

I’m going to the 50
th
reunion and I really hope to see you there.

Since the 40th both kids have graduated from UCLA and UCSB and on to grad school. Daughter Katie is planning a wedding in 2018 in Ramona and son who just turned 23 and been to a dozen countries is still into adventures, this year’s most recent adventure was the opportunity to climb a giant sequoia in Sequoia National Park. Just built my horticulturalist wife Melanie a 50K greenhouse, ‘happy wife is happy life.’

I’m still an adjunct professor at UCLA and research scientist for the Department of Interior. Main research focus is on projecting how climate change will impact future forest fires. Still traveling extensively internationally and recently published a Springer-Verlag book on fire in Mediterranean Climate Ecosystems and brought my research publications to over 400, received a Guggenheim Fellowship and was made a Fellow of the Ecological Society of America. Am having way too much fun to retire and still have research projects to complete before I hang it up.

May 29, 1949 Vista CA Housesitter for Cats Married 1
I’ve held a lot of different jobs over the years, retail, data gathering and sorting, yardage stores.
In the 70’s I embarked on a spiritual journey that led me through various teachings.  And during one stop, I met my wonderful husband Hugh, a handyman, of 39 years.  We have one son, Shawn, who is now 31 and a caregiver.
When he was little, I served for 5 years at his Waldorf school as the store manager and turned it into one of the most successful ones in the country.  Later on, I worked in the shipping department of a company that sold organic baby furnishings.
Presently, I create colorful Constant Contact emails for an animal communicator/spiritual teacher.  And I housesit with cats.
I love to garden, decorate, and do crafts.
I’m looking forward to reconnecting with folks I knew so long ago!

Oceanside CA Retired Married 3
My life in the last 10 years has been interesting ... After 11 years, we reluctantly gave up our RV life on the road and bought a condo in a senior community in Oceanside, California (my husband didn't want to deal with outside maintenance and I didn't want to deal with other peoples' bad parenting). We were blessed with a surprise sixth granddaughter in 2011 ... Jillian. She joined Hannah 28, Katy 27, Nora 17 (Jilly's sister), Ryleigh 14, and Maggie 11, as the joys of our lives.

After all our years in the Midwest, we're enjoying the weather and life in Southern California ... although I do miss sweater-weather. We celebrated our 46th anniversary in February, and keep busy in our community, making some great new friends along the way. I've beaten cancer twice in the last 10 years and am now enjoying good health and life every single day.

Due to a previous commitment, I will be not be attending the reunion, but I hope everyone has a wonderful time ... please say "Hi" and wave to me when the videographer comes around! :)

(The "Now" picture was taken last year on one of the rare occasions when our daughter who lives and teaches English in China, our older son, his wife and two daughters from Kansas, and our younger son and his wife and two daughters from Encinitas were all together. Our two adult granddaughters who live in Virginia are the only ones missing.)

After 2 semesters at Southwestern spent 4 years in the Air Force as a missile technician. In 1974 I married my incredible wife Mary (Castle Park '67) and settled in Phoenix. We have a daughter, Melissa, and a son, Jason. Both ASU grads, and a grandson from each.

I worked in office equipment and document imaging for the last 43 years. I retired last year after a heart attack and triple by-pass. All good now. Mary retired this year and we are looking forward to travel and time with our grandsons.

Lake Oswego OR Retired Widowed 2
I retired from community college teaching four years ago when my dear husband Gregg got sick and died from pancreatic cancer. So, retirement years as a single was not what we had planned, but I'm learning to enjoy life again by living in the present moment.

Ever since Mr. Park's World History class and seeing photos of concentration camp victims in our text book, I have had an interest in all things related to the Holocaust. I spend much of my volunteer time typing up transcripts of oral interviews with H. survivors and find it very meaningful to be part of preserving their stories.

Before doing this volunteer work, I travelled to Germany and Poland with a Road Scholar program (which I highly recommend). We toured many memorial sites, including Auschwitz. The German I learned in Mr. Jones's class came in handy.

I'm looking forward to the reunion in October! Thank you committee!

May 30, 1949 Mesa AZ Gleefully retired Married
Graduated UCLA 1971 with BAs in History and Philosophy. Met a wonderful girl, Virginia, married her in 1973, and somehow she's put up with me ever since.
Thought I'd teach, but Gov.Reagan added a 5th yr credential requirement and I wanted a break from school. Worked for Rohr, Cubic Western, and a few otherSD businesses for several yrs until 1981 when Hughes Helicopter (which became McDonnell Douglas and then Boeing) recruited me to move to LA. Then the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter production award arrived and we moved to Mesa, Az in 1986, I spent 25 yrs with Boeing building helicopters in the desert. My primary occupation was Mgr of international procurement, wherein I traveled much of the world and meant some wonderful people and cultures.
Upon retiring in 2006, I have enjoyed spending summers in my motorhome with my wife and dogs, living on the beach in Wa., so I'm sort of a reverse snowbird.
When home in Mesa, I spend some time with a Boxer rescue organization, helping with re-homing dogs with families that love them.

April 04, 1949 Anchorage AK Registered Nurse Single 1
Well, it's been a long time.....wanted to attend a reunion before this but was either working, out of state, working, already traveling, or working! Did I mention I live to work?!! After graduation, I got a job as a secretary in Chicago which served me well. Met my husband, moved back to San Diego, had a son and then went to college and became a registered nurse. I have been working and loving it ever since then! Not sure about retirement, don't think I could give it up... anyway, divorced, never remarried but did meet the real love of my life later. We were together for 8 very exciting years until he passed away. I've never remarried but continue to do all the things I want and enjoy. I've done some very exciting and rewarding things! This year, as a first, went to Sturgis, SD FOR THE MOTORCYCLE RALLY!! Looking forward to seeing and "re-meeting" classmates! Send Marie a MessageSend Marie a Message

July 12, 1950 Annapolis MD semi-retired/home school curriculum reviewer Married 2
Hello, everyone!  I love reading about all of you!  A huge thanks to Bill and the committee for helping us all reconnect.  Looking forward to our 50th ... and my first!

For the past 38 years I have been married to my best friend Jerry.  The first half of our marriage was spent crisscrossing the country during his Navy career.  We especially liked our 4 years in Hawaii! During the second half of our marriage we have put down roots in Annapolis, Maryland.  We have grown quite fond of this charming mid-Atlantic colonial city on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.  However, Chula Vista will always tug at my heartstrings.

Our two children adopted the "here today, gone in 2 years" lifestyle of their childhood. Daughter Kristen is a lawyer/diplomat working for the State Department.  She has had postings in Trinidad and Tobago, the United Nations, Beirut, and now Washington DC.  Son Matt has followed in his father's footsteps as a naval officer and has racked up his own series of moves.  Last January he and his wife presented us with the best of all possible gifts - a lovely little granddaughter who immediately became the apple of our eye!

So far:  Enormously grateful for the family, friends, and life I have been granted.  Up next:  Positively gleeful about the freedom and flexibility of retirement ... while still pondering ways to make my remaining years useful and productive.

See you in October!
